Artist Lecture by Jer'Lisa Devezin

Jer’Lisa J. Devezin is an artist and educator born and raised in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, LA. She earned an MFA in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University in 2019, and a BA in Studio Art from Dillard University in 2011. Heavily influenced by her upbringing in New Orleans, Jer’Lisa’s work engages research through the lens of her personal experience, centering identity, place, Southern culture, and Abstraction.

 

Devezin has shown work at galleries and Museums (Nasher Sculpture Center, Talley Dunn Gallery, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and internationally at the Jakmel Ekspresyon Center in Haiti), as well as received several residencies, fellowships, and grants, including the Creative Assembly Fellowship 2025, COR Research Grant 2025, Darryl Chappell Artist in Residence Fellowship 2024, and was an Artist in Residence at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans, 2014 amongst others. Devezin is currently based in New Orleans, where she works as an Assistant Professor of Art, Sculpture, and Material Studies in the Newcomb Art Department at Tulane University.
